Program Overviews
Winter Experience
For campers and their friends ages 8-11
Campers gather for a fun weekend of games and outdoor activities with their friends and counselors from summer camp! Campers will be sleeping in camp both Friday and Saturday nights. They will participate in all camp games, arts and crafts, snow sculpture making contests, snow shoeing and more! Campers will learn how to keep warm outside in the winter but also how to have fun in the snow!
This program will be held at YMCA Camp Icaghowan in Amery, WI, about 90 minutes from the Twin Cities. This program is offered for campers ages 8-11. Sign up early to guarantee your spot. Bring your friends!
Program fee is $130 and busing is available for an additional $40/person.
Winter Adventures
For campers and their friends ages 12-18
Campers sleep indoors Friday night after a night of training, gathering gear, and orientation. Crews will head out Saturday morning after a big breakfast to set up camp and do some winter activities. After a hearty supper and a night hike, campers will sleep in their shelters. Sunday morning, campers will eat breakfast and return to main camp for a celebration banquet lunch and return home feeling great about their adventure.
This program will be held at YMCA Camp Icaghowan in Amery, WI, about 90 minutes from the Twin Cities. This program is offered for campers in 7th grade and older and is limited to 30 campers each weekend. Sign up early to guarantee your spot and bring your friends!

This winter weekend program will include:
- A fun day of winter play
- Sleeping indoors Friday night and outside Saturday night
- Learning how to enjoy being outdoors in the winter
- Winter camping safety skills and training
- Equipment orientation

Equipment Camp Icaghowan Will Provide for Winter Adventures:
- Sleeping Bag - rated to minus 40 degrees. A liner is used.
- Sleeping Pads - 2 Ridge Rest closed cell pads
- Boots - Rated to minus 70 degress. You will get an extra set of boot liners too.
- Liner Socks - 2 pair of polyester liner socks for wicking
- Warmth Socks - 2 pair of wool/synthetic blend expedition socks
- Glove Liners - 2 pairs
- Wrist Warmers - 1 pair of stretch fleece wrist warmers
- Mittens - 1 pair of double layer insulated mittens
- Day Hat - Fleece hat for day
- Night Hat - Kept dry all day and worn at night
- Balaclava - A stretch fleece full headpiece. Head Hugger design includes a neck and shoulder cover
- Pants - 1 pair of wool pants and suspenders
- Water Bottle and Carrier - 1/2 liter Nalgene water bottle and carrier
- Duffle Bag - Used to carry equipment issued from camp
- Backpack - Kelty Red Cloud 5000 cu. in. internal frame backpack
- Snowshoes
- Crew Equipment - Crew Sleds, Winter Tents, Parachute Shelter, Shelter Tarps, Ground Tarps, Ice Chisel, Shovels, Cooking Stoves, Lanterns, Cook Ware, Kneeling Pads, Sven Saws, Fuel Bottles, Water Jugs, First Aid Kit, and more!
Equipment YOU Will Need to Bring:
- Long Underwear (not cotton) - Medium to heavy weight. Bottom and top. Double layers of lightweight will work too, but NO COTTON!
- Upper Body Layers - Several layers of non-absorbing clothing made of fabrics like fleece or wool. Sweaters, pull-vers or vests are great. No Cotton. Camp has wool shirts available that can act as one of these layers.
- Outer Shell - A winter jacket (include hood if available)
- Eating Utensils - A plastic bowl, plastic spoon, and insulated mug. Camp does have some available to borrow.
- Personal Items - Toothbrush, toothpaste, handi wipes, etc.
- Sleeping Bag - You will sleep in your own bedding indoors on Friday night
- Lip Protection - A "chap-stick" type product
- Sunsreen
- Flash Light or Headlamp - bring extra batteries
- Regular Clothes - For Friday night, and Sunday
- Personal Medical Supplies - In original container with name and dosage. To be turned in at check-in

Optional: Ski gloves, head band, rain suit (good for carving out snow shelters and as a wind layer), pocket knife, small garbage bags for pakcing clothes in backpack
